This is what the billboards along the road to the Ardèche proclaim. Truly, the Ardèche, named after the river which runs through its southern part, is one of the most beautiful areas in France.
The "Vallée de l'Ardèche" is best known and attracts tourists in their thousands every year.
The northern part is more tranquil, however. Pine forests, bisected by rivers such as the Doux, the Eaux Noire and the Daronne characterize the landscape. Rustic towns and villages adorn the surroundings. The people here raise cattle for a living and in the valleys fruit and vegetables are grown.
An ideal place for those who enjoy nature and outdoor activities rather than the thrill of visiting bars, dancing's and disco's. Visiting one of the regular markets or rummage sales in the neighbourhood can be a surprisingly interesting event.

Camping à la ferme "DOMAINE DE CLARAT"

The camping is situated in the northern Ardèche where the rivers Doux and Eau Noire meet. On the grounds there is a silk factory dating from the turn of the century. It is now used for recreational purpose.
Facilities include a swimming- and paddling pool, a shop, bar and cafe-restaurant with a sun-terrace. Hot and cold showers, wash basins and laundry facilities as well as water and electricity link-ups for tour caravans are available.
The staff speaks English, Dutch, German and French.
The camping is open from May till early September.
Since "small is beautiful" is our motto reservations are recommended.

DOMAINE DE CLARAT - camping - apartments (gîtes)- houses
The main building is now used for recreational purposes, such as bar, café- restaurant, table tennis, table football and library.
It also contains 4 very nice apartments, which are overlooking the river Doux.
Each apartment giving accommodation to 2-4 persons.
In the annexes 3 comfortable houses + a chalet (each with its own garden terrace) are also available for rental.
The apartments and houses can be rented throughout the year.

In its present situation DOMAINE DE CLARAT exists over 15 years.
There are facilities to accommodate a party of over 30 people, for which special arrangements can be made during the off-season which runs from September 1st till June 15th.: Click here for: more pictures of Domaine de Clarat

Possible activities in the surrounding:
Walks and hikes : there are 300 km footpaths in the areas.
Cycling : experienced cyclists will enjoy the opportunity of
doing their own "Tour l'Ardèche"
Fishing : trout fishing in the river Doux is a sport in its own right
Mountain climbing: ideal spots around in the immediate surroundings
Wind surfing : the Devesset Reservoir is only a 20 minutes drive
away from us.
Excursions :
- a miniature village within 4 km from Domaine de Clarat - Safari park "Le Peaugres", 800 animal species in a 80 hectare area. - The steam train "Le Mastrou",runs between Lamastre and Tournon - Market every Tuesday in Lamastre, 15 km from the camping. - Visits to museums, churches, villages and reserves in the area.

From the "Autoroute du Soleil":
70 kilometres past Lyon, direction Marseille, take the exit Tain l'Hermitage,
leave the motorway in the direction of Tournon,
from Tournon drive along the D 532 and D 534 to Lamastre,
pass through Lamastre and take the D 533 in the direction of St. Agreve - Le Puy;
after 7 km turn right and take the D 228 in the direction of Labatie-d'Andaure.
after 10 km you will see the camping at the other side of the river Doux. Here is also the bridge over the river.
